Welding machine of the protective gas type has a welding transformer and a thyristor-control led rectifier unit as well as a D. C choking circuit. The transformer exhibits a static characteristic with a gradient of 5-7.5 V per 100 A, and D. C inductivity amts to 17-23V when charged with an A. C current of 50 C.P.S and 30 A. Pref. the transformer is a rotary current transformer.
