A specialised coupling mechanism based on a roller contact principle, couples an outer element to a shape of square or circular cross section. The mechanism overcomes some of the problems associated with the use of couplings suited to rigid outer elements, typically made of steel, when applied to non-rigid outer elements made of such materials as hardboard. The coupling block consists of two collars, which fit over the shaft, and are separated by, typically, four spacing elements or bolts and form coupling elements. These consist of flexible rods surrounded by roller elements which make contact with the possible flexible outer element of the coupling. These units are mounted to ensure a concentric geometry across the coupling.
