phosphites are prepd. by thermal treatment of mono-n-alkyl phosphites and their mixts. with di-n-alkyl phosphites at 200 degrees C. Simultaneously the di-n-alkyl phosphite forme d is dist. off in vacuo and the residue hydrolysed with H2O to phosphorous acid soln. The temp. is pref. 100 degrees C.
