Hot galvanising - iron and steel articles by immersion in zinc and then in zinc-aluminium alloys

Fe- or steel articles exposed to atmospheric corrosion, e.g. steel electricity pylons and latticed girders, also wire and wire sheet material, are galvanised by immersion in a Zn melt followed by - immersion of galvanised article in the melt of a Zn alloy, esp. a Zn-Al alloy, e.g. (esp. for pylons) alloys contg. 5% Al and 4% Cu, applied at 400 degrees C, or 20% Al, 5% Mg and 1% Si, applied at 46-470 degrees C. Good adhesion is obtd. between Fe or steel substrate and Zn alloy.
