2-Cyanobenzoxazoles (I): are antimicrobials (where R1, R2, R3 independently are H, hal, lower alkyl or nitro) also the 5-methyl- or nitro- or chlor- or 4,5,7-trichloro-derivs. Prepd. from the 2-chlorobenzoxazoles and a suspension of NaCN in DMSO contg. solvents e.g. pyridine, at 18-20 degrees with cooling.
