Triphenylphosphine reagents or their phosphonium-salts have at least one phenyl gp., bonded to P which is a component of a crosslinked polymerisate. (I) essentially composed of phenyl-substd. polymer chains. (I) is a divinylbenzene-crosslinked polystyrene in which the styrene is at least partly low-alkyl-substd. Polymeric title cpds. are produced by (a) reacting (I) with diphenylphosphides; or (b) reacting (I) which also contains reactive alkali metal phenyl gps., with a monohalogendiphenylphosphine (II); or (c) reacting (I) with (II) in presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst; or nd) polymerising monomers contg. triphenylphosphino-gps. in presence of a crosslinking agent which opt. contains also triphenylphosphino-gps. The resulting polymer is converted into a phosphonium-salt by treatment with a quaternising agent.
