Octachlorodipropyl ether of formula: CCl3-CHCl-CH2-O-CH2-CHCl-CCl3 (I) which is of use as a solvent, insecticide and starting material for pesticides, is prepd. by mixing dichlorodimethyl ether, AlCl3 and an organic solvent selected from CH2Cl2, CHCl3, CCl4 and CS2, and introducing trichloroethylene into the mixt.
