Hydrocarbon cracking,aromatisation and isomerisation - in liquid phase in presence of coal,phenols and catalysts

Simultaneous cracking, aromatisation and isomerisation of aliphatic and hydroaromatic hydrocarbons is carried out in presence of finely milled coal as hydrogen acceptor, phenol/cresol as soln. aid and a heavy metal catalyst which may be S-resistant at 150-450 degrees C in a closed, pressurised reactor. Pref. catalysts are oxides, sulphides or salts of Cr, Mo, W, Ni and Co which may be activated with Zn, Cd, V, Mn and Fe cpds. Petroleum fractions such as heavy fuel oils and low-boiling n-paraffin fractions can be converted into high-octane fuels.
