The paper is produced by reducing the moisture content of a fibrous suspension, having 3% solids, to about 30% in a worm screw press, dispersing the suspension centrifugally against the inner surface of a frusto-conical divergent attrition drum using a high speed impeller so that the fibres are fibrillated as they are passed helically over the sharp pts. of the attrition layer formed corundum in a plastics matrix, and the fibres, which are subsequently axially compressed and exposed to a strong vibration, are treated again with the water expressed from the suspension to restore the original consistency of the suspension.
