Injection mould closure - with lightweight ram uses locking bars and mechanisms to provide closure force

An injection moulding machine, esp. for plastics, comprising two mould clamping plates movable relative to each other, one at least of which has locking bars secured to it passing through locks fixed to the other plate, possesses in addition longitudinally adjustable bars, fixed to the moving mould plate, which pass through the fixed plate and are supported from the latter by means of a cylinder-piston drive or the like, for executing the opening/closing motion. Specif., the locking bars have locking mechanisms behind the moving plates, such as wedge systems or clamping screws, to provide the locking and holding force. The locking bars can be solid and the piston unit need only possess about 5% of the capacity needed for holding the mould shut.
