Glass bushing comprises a tubular bushing guide, which is fitted over a metal coer, with a similar coefficient of thermal expansion to that of glass, in such a way that the core forces the bushing guide to expand to a similar extent. Specif., the core is conical and fits into a matching recess in the tubular bushing guide. The bushing is used for vacuum plant lead-ins and remains vacuum tight over a wide range of ambient temp. variations without thermal overstressing.
