The ultrasonic test method automatically differentiates between useful and noise signals in non-destructive material testing using pulse echo measurements. The frequencies of pulses received from the test material are compared with a known frequency. Only signals with the known pulse frequency are evaluated. - Pulse echo measurements can be made over a wide bandwidth. The received signal pulse frequency is measured during a defined measurement interval. It is compared not only with a single defined frequency but with the maximum and minimum of a frequency band acceptable for useful signals. The frequency comparison may be implemented digitally.
