The compensating device is for crankshaft moment on a standing crank press for material deformation, with a compressed air cylinder whose housing is hinged to the press column and whose piston rod is connected with the crank shaft and with a control system for the air feed. To prevent the shaft moment from changing it sense, the compressed air cylinder (1) is arranged at an angle to the press axis. The piston rod (7) of its double-acting pitson is hinged to the head of the connecting rod (8) which connectes the press stamp with the crank shaft. The axis at the joint is so sideways displaced from the press axis that the line running through the centres of the crankshaft and the joint axis forms an angle of 10 to 45 deg. with the press axis.
