In the prodn. of polycondensates based on cpds. capable of forming amino-plastics with aldehydes, aldehydes and hydroxyalkyl alpha,beta-unsatd. ehtylene-carboxylates, as in DT 2,111,003, the liquid, soluble or fusible polycondensates from the first stage of the reaction are subjected to further condensn. and/or polymerisation after adding polycarboxylic acid and/or its derivs., opt. after applying to a support. The prod. is esp. useful as or for casting and laminating resin and as coating agent. It is stable in storage. The modifier pref. is an acid anhydride, esp. of a cyclic polycarboxylic acid, partic. cyclohexan-1,2-dicarboxylic anhydride.
