Solvent for polyterephthaloyloxalamidrazone - a methanolic soln of lanthanum trichloride hydrate

The polyterephthaloyloxalamidrazones (PTA) have formula: and can be made by the reaction of oxalic acid bisamidrazone and terephthalic acyl halides. Copolyacyloxalamidrazones (CPA) consisting to 90 mol.% of PTA units and to 10 mol.% of recurring units of: (where R is a linear or branched (un)satd. aliphatic 2-12C residue or an alicylic, araliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic residue) can also be dissolved in the solvent. The solvent is pref. a 5-15 wt.% soln. of LaCl3.7H2O is methanol. Nonflammable coatings or mouldings by the "dry method" can be produced from the soln. of the polymers. The concn. of polymer in the soln. depends on the amt. of La and the degree of polymerisation. Concns. of up to 4 wt.% are possible, which are higher than any obtd. in the usual solvents.
