The patterning unit for a knitting machine uses a sliding unit carrying a yarn feed along the face of the needles. The yarn feed carries two separate yarns of different colours or characteristics, through two separate feed guides. The yarn feed can be rotated and reversed to allow a variable presentation of the two yarns to achieve a complicated patterning effect on the same face of the knitted fabric without taking up valuable machine space.
