Steroidal inters of formula (I): where R1 and R2 and R3 and R4 are double bonds, where R is a double bond and the other is satd, or where R1 and R2 is a double bond, R3= H and R4=OH; and where R5= H (1-4C) alkyl, (2-4C) alkenyl, or (2-4C) alkynyl opt. substd. by O,N or metal contg. gps. and Sr is a steroid redicue, are prepd by dehydrating the corresp. 11-, 17- or 11, 17-hydroxy cpds with SOCl2/tert. base in a solvent of dielectric constant 6, pref. THF or CH2Cl2.
