Rock fracturing - particularly in oil prospecting boreholes

Hydrualic fracturing of oil-hearing formations by filling the drill pipe system with a liquid and setting up a flow therein. Upon abruptly interrupting the flow by suddenly closing the pipe, a shock wave can be generated which rises towards the zone to the fractured, where it produces a hammer-type blow. Eliminates HP high rating pumps used in prior art hydraulic fracturing methods.
