Melting iron/steel - in acid lined converters by induction heating

Iron alloys are fused in acid-lined convertors heated in an induction furnace, whereby the conventional process of adding carbon to the crude iron is at least partially replaced by carburation within the induction furnace. Stricter control of the properties of the molten metal is achieved and a higher percentage of scrap steel can be used for adjusting the composn.
