Comprises (a) a series of adjoining chamber alternately connected at the top and bottom so that they form vertical parts of a long enclosed channel, at least one chamber being parts of a long enclosed channel, (b) a mechanism for transporting the products through the channels (c) a pressure device at least one point in the channel such that on one side of this point at least, different levels of liquid are estabilised in these chambers connected at the bottom, while the gas pressure in the chamber connected at their top ends in lower than the gas pressure at the point, the improvement comprising equipment for subjecting the products being transported through the channel to a temp. above the prescribed temp. and then to a temp. = that temp.
