Controlling moisture content of a sand mix - using flexible probe and strain gauge

The moisture content of sand in a mixer is controlled by measuring the deflection of a flexible rod or probe which is suspended vertically from the extremity of the crosshead of the mixer, so that its lower end dips into the mix. A second rod carrying a V-shaped protective strip dips slightly under the surface of the mix so that depth of the measuring rod in the mix is a fixed constant amount. A strain gauge at the top of the probe transmits a reading to a bridge circuit which controls the flow of water to the mix. The device may be used on any type of mixer for batch or continuous use.
