In the classic refrigeration cycle difficulty is experienced with the condenser when the cycle is used in a region of low gravitational field or is subject to disorientation. To overcome this the condenser makes use of the capillary action of a porous wall. The wall must be capable of retaining a certain volume of liquid and must allow the condensed gas to flow through the wall to be collected on the other side. Typical types are made of metallic powder reacted to provide a suitable porosity.
