The body of the container is held in the jaws of a chuck with spring loaded clamping cone/ferrule mounted on a rotating shaft driven via a torque limiter and friction clutch, by a geared motor. The cap is clamped in the jaws of an upper vice mounted on a bush which can slide freely up and down a vertical pillar part of its weight being taken on a spring. The bush has a slotted skirt engaging a stud in the pillar to prevent it turning until disengaged by lifting. All the submechanisms for clamping releasing etc. have levers which can easily be operated by a conventional hot zone tele-manipulator.
