1,273,657. Dyeing in organic solvents. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 22 July, 1970 [6 Aug., 1969], No. 35508/70. Heading D1B. [Also in Division C4] Synthetic fibre materials of polyesters, polyamides, polyurethanes, polyolefins and cellulose acetate are solvent dyed with anthraquinone dyestuffs of the general formula: wherein Hal is halogen e.g. Cl or Br; X is H, OH, C 1 -C 4 alkoxy, amino, C 1 -C 4 alkylamino, cycloalkylamino, arylamino e.g. phenylamino optionally substituted by halogen or trifluoromethyl, arylsulphonylamino, alkylsulphonylamino, a group of the formula: m is 0, 1 or 2; n is 0, 1, 2 or 3; p is 0, 1, 2 or 3; q is 0, 1 or 2 and B and B 1 independently of one another are C 1 -C 9 alkyl, cycloalkyl, or aralkyl, the sum of the carbon atoms in B or B and B 1 being 1 to 9 and the sum n+p+q being at least 1. After impregnation with a solution of the dye in a solvent the fibre material is subjected to a heat treatment at 120‹ to 230‹C e.g. a dry heat treatment or a heat treatment in super heated solvent vapour. The solvents used which are preferably waterimmiscible and have boiling points of 40‹ to 150‹C include tri- and tetrachlorethylene, 1, 1, 1-trichlorethane and 1, 1, 1-trichlorpropane, and the dyestuff may be dissolved in a first solvent e.g. an alcohol, dimethylformamide, dimethylacetamide, dimethylsulphonide or sulpholane before adding to the water immiscible solvent. Yellow-red-violet-blue shades are obtained.
