1292744 Farrowing unit SALOPIAN-KENNETH HUDSON Ltd 30 April 1971 [22 April 1970] 19162/70 Heading AIM A farrowing unit comprises a cage formed from inverted U-shaped uprights 8, 9, 10 connected by rails 4, 5, 6, 7 and cam be removably mounted on a partition 1 and bar assembly 2 which are mounted in a pigsty. Partition 1, spaced from the end wall 14 of the sty, blocks one end of the cage and assembly 2 comprises bars 15, 16 extending from the partition and bar 17 on which the cage rests. Two gates 20, 29 are mounted' on limbs 21, 28 of the member 10. Gate 20 forms a closure for the cage and when swung through 180‹ acts with gate 29 to prevent the animal entering the spaces between the sides of the cake and the sty walls. On removal of the cage the partition and assemlbly still afford some protection to piglets. In another embodiment the cage assembly may be used' independently, e.g. by having feet engaging brackets in the pigsty floor and having one end directly mounted on the end wall.
