An oil metering system for a rotary compressor of the sliding vane type in which a valve assembly continuously meters oil flow into the compressor during its operation and is effective to prohibit oil flow into the compressor during its "off" cycle, thereby preventing reverse rotation of the compressor rotor previously caused by balancing or equalizing of the inlet and outlet pressures internally of the compressor.
