Highly crimped regenerated cellulose fibers can be obtained by stretching filaments containing the reaction product of cellulose xanthate and formaldehyde in a non-aqueous liquid having a boiling point of at least 80 DEG C. and maintained at a temperature of 60 DEG C to 150 DEG C, relaxing said filaments in an incompletely regenerated state in an aqueous solution having a swelling action on the filaments and maintained at a temperature of 30 DEG C to 90 DEG C and then subjecting the filaments to regeneration treatment to complete regeneration.
