Heat stabiliser compsn. esp. for polystyrene with 1-25 wt.% diene rubber consists of 90-100 pts. wt. 2,6-di-tert. butyl-4-methylphenol and 90-10 pts. wt. octadecyl-3-(31,51-di-tert. butyl-41-hydroxyphenyl)propionate. The antioxidant compsn. is generally incorporated at 0.03-5 wt.% on the polymer, e.g., by kneading, extrusion or in a Banbury mixer. Prodts. have excellent resistance to ageing and yellowing at elevated temps. in air, and are esp. useful for the prodn. of clear or white materials.
