1390971 Caprolactam prills BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 10 Aug 1972 [11 Aug 1971] 37337/72 Heading C2C Free-flowing caprolactam prills are produced by introducing molten caprolactam in the form of droplets in fine dispersion into a fluidized bed of preformed caprolactam prills which are fluidized with a cold inert gas. A portion of the solid caprolactam may be brought to a smaller particle size by grinding inside or outside the fluidized bed and this portion may be introduced as new nuclei into the fluidized bed. Caprolactam particles entrained with the off gas may be deposited above the fluidized bed and returned to the latter as new nuclei; the caprolactam prills in the fluidized bed suitably have a particle size of 0À5-3 mm. The inert gas preferably enters the bed at 0-50‹ C. and leaves at 10-68‹ C. and a gas speed (of 0À5-5 m./sec. is suitably maintained in the bed. The fluidized bed may contain from 50-600 kg./m.SP2/SP of caprolactam prills and 1-5 kg. of melt per hour may be supplied per kg. of prills present in the fluidized bed.
