Plasma-arc furnace - for large scale production of metals and alloys by electrode remelting

Plasma-arc furnace for remelting metals and alloys has a sealed chamber, a cooled mould below it for forming an ingot from the electrode which is fixed to the shaft of a mechanism which moves the electrode vertically and which enters the sealed chamber, a device for admitting a flux into the mould, and appts for supplying and regulating the flow of plasma generating gas. The electrode and shaft have axial channels, and the plasma gas supply and flow regulating appts and the flux admission device are connected to one channel in the shaft outside the sealed chamber.
