Cationic surface active agents - quat amines for softening and antistatic treatment of textiles

Cationic surface active compound of formula (where R' and R" are 8-22C aliphatic, R"' and Riv are (m)ethyl, X is H or (m)ethyl, n1 and n2 are 0-5, and A is an anion). For softening and antistatic treatment of textiles, the treated textiles having better water absorption properties than prior art quaternised compounds. Pref. n1 and n2 are 0-2, R' and R" are 8-14C aliphatic, R"' and Riv are methyl, and A is a monovalent acid anion. R' and R" may be derived from fatty or synthetic alcohols.
