Photographic image is reinforced by contacting a photographic material consisting of a support layer and =1 layer with imagewise material distribution with a reinforcing soln. which contains a complex of cobalt (III) as active component, in the presence of a reducing agent. The layer contains an imagewise distribution of a metal esp. Ag. The reducing agent can reduce exposed Ag halide to Ag metal, and is an aromatic pri. amino colour developer pref. 4-amino-3-methyl-(N-ethyl-N-beta-methoxyethyl) aniline. The photographic material or the soln. contains a colour developer. The soln. contains a complexing agent for cobalt (III) pref. EDTA. The cobalt (III) complex contains amine ligands and is specif. CO (NH2)6 Cl3. Gives a reinforcement of an imagewise distribution of an image material of low density, esp. silver halide materials. A large amount of image dye can be formed from a small amount of image silver.
