Spherical particles of fuel or breeder material are enclosed in a metallic casing. These particles are of =2 different types whose fissile material content per unit volume differs by a factor of =1.5 esp. =2 in the case where this fissile material is Pu. In either case, the dia. of the high content spherical particles is v50% less than that of the lower content particles. Improved load matching esp. in terms of alpha radiation is achieved.
