Article with a high tensile strength at high temps. and a good resistance to oxidn. and corrosion at high temps., is produced by (a) smelting an alloy from the elements Ni, Al, Nb and Cr, and (b) congealing the alloy in one direction to a casting in such a manner that a eutectic microstructure is formed consisting of =3 phases selected from Ni3al, Ni3Nb, NiAl, Nb(Ni1-xAlx)2, CrNb in a solid soln. of Cr, two of the three phases being specifically oriented relative to each other, and the third phase occurring at least partly in one of the two specifically oriented phases. The eutectic of the alloy is pref. composed of (wt.%) 58.3-58.9 Ni, 13.6-14.2 Cr, 5.1-5.7 Al, and 23.8-23.9 Nb or 43.1-43.7 Ni, 26.1-26.7 Cr, 6.3-6.9 Al and 23.8-23.9 Nb.
