1389488 Grips for rackets J DESLAGE 20 March 1972 [18 March 1971] 12954/72 Heading A6D A racket grip has a series of laterally arranged grooved imprints 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 to accommodate the digits of a person's hand and defining between them a series of corresponding profiled rib portions which serve to provide position guides for consecutive digits of the hand, a groove 5 for the index finger extending substantially peripherally of the grip to groove 4 for the upper portion of the thumb and widening longitudinally of the grip as at 9 to accommodate the base portion of the thumb said groove being of a depth which provides between it and the upper end of the grip a radially thickened projecting portion 13 to act as a guard. In a second embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) the grip is restricted to the upper part for the thumb and index finger only the lower lateral edge then being provided with a protruding portion (15) which is of sufficient length and height for engagement between the index finger and the second finger. The grip may be formed of a low-density metal or of plastics material with sufficient resistance so as not to warp under the holding stress. The grips can be fitted directly on a handle, or can be formed independently and attached e.g. by screw means, such that they assume a correct position in relation to a specific face of the racket.
