A synthetic crystalline zeolitic molecular sieve, designated zeolite T, of formula 0,7-1,5[xNa2O:(1-x)K2O]Al2O3: 6,4-7,4SiO2:0-8H2O, where x is 0,1 to 0,8, and having a specified x-ray diffraction pattern is prepared by forming a sodium/potassium aluminosilicate mixture of composition either TABS:0912936/III/1 or TABS:0912936/III/2 and maintaining the mixture at 100 DEG -150 DEG C. until the zeolite crystallizes. The zeolite should be activated by heating to 300 DEG C. under atmospheric or reduced pressure or by maintaining at room temperature under vacuum. The activated zeolite preferentially adsorbs polar, unsaturated or straight chain hydrocarbons. Comparative data is given for the adsorption capacity of the zeolite for water, oxygen, argon, propane, propylene, n-pentane, cyclopropane, iso butane, thiophene, benzene, carbon dioxide, butene-1, ammonia, krypton and cyclohexane. The zeolite may be pelletted with clay.
