Mechanically operated grab partic. applicable to reactor in-core channel components such as fuel elements. The grab attached to a hoist rope connected to a winch or other means for imparting raising or lowering motion. The grab internal features incorporate a rotatable ring with radially projecting pins engaging in a slotted key-way in an enclosing cylinder. The key way configuration constrains a sequential engagement or disengagement of the grab in conjunction with a piston actuation of a further pin and slotted key way mechanism integrated with the hooks. Hook operation is automatic and sequential according to hoist motion and obviate grab failure through operator default.
