[Also in Division B3] A rivet comprises a head 91, a threaded por- tion 95, a tubular extension 90 and a screwthreaded shank 96 having a weakened portion 97. A drill tip 93 is attached to the threaded shank 96 which is inserted in the chuck of a drill. The drill tip bores a hole through the two pieces of material 98, 99 to be fastened together and then a locking tab 92 engages the material 98 to prevent further rotation of the rivet. The shank 96, however, continues to rotate and in so doing causes the tube 90 to collapse against the material 99. The joint tightens until the shank breaks at the weakened portion 97.
