Non-ferrous continuous caster - with partial metal recirculation to remove non-metallic inclusions

A recirculation loop for part of the metal in a continuous casting machine for non-ferrous metals, e.g. Cu and Al, is used to wash away non-metallic inclusions and gases from the surface of the solidifying metal. Two tubes whose diameters are in the ratio 3:1 connect holding ladle with the casting mould, at which point there is a venturi tube. The larger tube is made the secondary of a transformer so that metal flows down this tube through the venturi over the top of the metal in the mould and up the smaller tube, carrying with it the non-metallic inclusions which then separate into the slag in the ladle.
