Refractory stones for externally heated furnaces, such as gas and coke ovens, are produced from a silicate material with addition of 0.5-5.0 wt. % (pref. 3%) of WO2 and/or MoO2, whereby their compressive strength is increased by about 100%, and the heat conductivity by 25-30%; the volume stability is improved.
