Process comprises (1) forming a slurry of technical grade KCl with recycled K2SO4 wash liquor from (5) (2) continuously adding satd. soln. of technical (NH4)2 SO4, with 5-10 mol.% excess until is not 65 wt.% K2SO4 is pptd. (3) introducing gaseous NH3 to saturation at 15-40 (20-25) degrees C to crystallise remaining K2SO4, (4) sepg. the solid, (5) water leaching the K2SO4 in several stages until the K2O content is 51 (52%) and the Cl content is 0.1%, returning the wash liquor to (1). (6) drying the product K2SO4. (7) boiling off NH3 from the K2SO4 mother liquor for recycle to (3). (8) Evapg. off 50-75 (65-70) wt.% H2O, cooling and sepg. the crystallised NH4Cl. (9) Washing the NH4Cl with H2O to 99 (99.4-99.5)% purity and (10) drying.
