Halogenation of polyolefins - insolvent by free radical initiation with counter current halogen flow

Halogenation of homo or hetero-olefin polymers dissolved in inert solvents (CCl4) is initiated by free radicals, pref. generated by actinic radiation with addition of water of HCl, where the polymer flows countercurrent to the halogen gas pref. Cl2 and 20-60 degrees C for 1-20 min. Reaction time is short, reducing depolymerisation reactions, and giving better coloured products suitable for films and coatings.
