The interlocking electrodes, which hold the wires to be joined are plate shaped. One of them has a vertical wall section with recesses, into which matching projections from the other engage thus creating a welding chamber open at one side. The design safeguards the mutual electrode alignment, and can be used in high speed automatic production welding system.
