The machine for making and testing involute spur gears causes a gear workpiece to wove relative to a tooth forming tool or a testing tracer with both a rectilinear movement and a rotary movement. A table movable rectilinearly carries a rotary workpiece support with the table and support being coupled for interdependent movement. A member moveable transversely on the table is coupled to the workpiece to rotate the support. A slide is coupled to the member and works in a guide rotatable to various angles inclined to the direction of table movement. A drive movable with the guide moves the slide to drive the member and so the support.
