1394272 Cable joints SOC INDUSTRIELLE DE LIAISONS ELECTRIQUES 25 April 1972 [26 July 1971] 19207/72 Heading H2E [Also in Division C3] Cable junctions may be formed using elastomeric dielectric compositions having a permittivity of at least 20 and comprising (A) a natural or synthetic elastomer, (B) 15 to 130 parts by weight per 100 parts of elastomer of carbon black and (C) 0À4 to 25 parts by weight per 100 parts of elastomer of a plasticizing and/or peptizing agent. The elastomer may be natural, polybutadiene, polyisoprene, polychloroprene, ethylene/propylene, ethylene/propylene/diene, butyl or silicone rubber. The plasticizer may be stearic acid, coumarone/indene resin or liquid aromatic hydrocarbon resin, and the peptizing agent may be piperidine pentamethylene dithiocarbamate. The compositions may also contain fillers, thermoplastic polymers, stabilizers and vulcanizing agents. The ends of cables to be joined may be provided with male sockets 2 which may be plugged into double female sleeve 1 having a locking device operated thereby, the whole being surrounded by layer 3 of the above composition which is further surrounded by conventional insulation. Alternatively the layer 3 may be sandwiched between or applied externally to the insulation. The junction may be provided at each end with ground plates 5, and sealing of the assembly may be effected with screw collars, clips or rings acting on the sheath 6 of the cable and on screen 4.
