The backing fabric is a base woven canvas and has a relief pattern, corresponding to the pattern to be embroidered, formed by pile fibres attached to the canvas by an adhesive. The embroidery in then formed over the pile fibres. Pref. the pile fibres are electrostatically flocked onto the adhesive whilst it is still wet. The final embroidered pattern has a greater relief effect.
