Device for the holding and guiding of universal joint spindles for sheet metal straightening machines with roller chairs, which may be removed by sliding, has a design which provided at the drive side cross members which support guide rolls. The lower cross member is fixed and the upper is disposed in a vertical guide in the machine frame. Two guide rolls each are form locking connected via lathe bored holes with one universal joint spindle each. The location of the these spindles required for fitting and removal of the roll chairs is determined by a centreing bar, which has to be placed into the lathe bored holes. The design permits quick roll changeover.
