Sepn of carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulphide - eg in fuel gas mixtures by absorption of carbon dioxide in barium or strontium

The gas mixture contg. CO2 and H2S in any proportion but not other absorbable component, is passed at atmos. press. through aq. soln of BaS, SrS, Ba(OH2), or Sr(OH)2, esp. technical grade BaS aq. contg. 100-200 g/l BaS at 30-70 degrees C. CO2 is pptd. as Ba-salt which is filtered off; H2S is collected overhead; the mother liquor is used to make up further wash soln., thus recovering residual sulphide.
