Pickling of copper - removal of dissolved and solid copper residues,and recovery of copper there from

A cyclic process is proposed for the recovery of max. amts. of copper from pickling lines and the prodn. of non-polluting effluents. The pickling soln. is electrolytically treated to deposit copper and then recycled. After pickling the items - rods, sheets, etc., are immersed in a water bath to remove excess pickling soln. - this wash water can also be electrolysed. Thereafter the items are water sprayed to removed solid particles and the resultant mud neutralised to produce hydroxides of copper which are removed by filtration and pressing and subsequently redissolved in the pickling acid and electrolysed. A tartaric acid spray is used as a final cleaner and the soln. from this can be safely neutralised and disposed of. Max. recovery of copper and reuse of pickling acids is possible.
