Improving yields in competitive reactions - in continuous reactors

Yields and selectivity (i.e. yield based on reacted starting material) of intermediates in competitive sequential reactions (i.e. reactions of the type A+B right arrow P1, P1+B right arrow P3, etc) in continuously operated reactors are improved by periodically altering the initial conc. of the reactants, e.g. by varying the concn. of starting materials introduced into the reactor in accordance with a sine-wave or square-wave pattern.
